Sometimes, when you least expect it, the good guys win. Sometimes, the good guy is a woman — a strong, wise and extraordinarily brave woman, such as Aung San Suu Kyi.
Suu Kyi, 67, has led her people in a decades’ long quest for democracy in Burma, the country renamed Myanmar by a brutal military dictatorship, which now appears ready to usher in democratic reform.
I’ve always admired Aung San Suu Kyi. She is an extrordinarily brave womyn who for decades has stood up to the tyrannical & patriarchal burmese dictatorship, as a brave freedom fighter for democracy. Dr. Suu Kyi is a true example of how womyn like us can make a true difference in the world, by fighting for justice one day at a time.
Today in the modern world womyn are at the forefront of democracy especially in third world nations still racked by male-dominated patriarchies. We need to support and educate womyn to be the leaders in these countries and strengthen womyn’s movements as well because this ultimately leads to true freedom.
